Life Along the Edge pays homage to the natural landscapes of Upstate New York, along the foothills of the Adirondack Park. This mural highlights the transition zone where forest meets wetland, an essential ecological edge where diverse plant and animal life thrive.
Created as an interactive, tactile experience, the mural invites engagement through touch, sound, and sight, making it accessible to people of all abilities. Textured paint, braille elements, and sound buttons allow visitors to feel, hear, and learn about this environment in a hands-on way.
The scene features native species including the pileated woodpecker, great blue heron, common loon, largemouth bass, and North American river otter, alongside regional plant life such as birch trees, ferns, pickerelweed, and pitcher plants.
